Caring for our Land
Hāloanakalaukapalili |
Mālama Honua encompasses many ideas and actions, and may be the key to the survival of our culture. Taking care of our land does not simply mean picking up rubbish, but also cultivating nā mea ʻo Hawaiʻi. An example of this is working in the loʻi or at a loko iʻa, which we, as Kamehameha students, are given the opportunity to do. With our ancestors deriving from Hāloanakalaukapalili, it is not only our kuleana as kanaka maoli to take care of all things to do with the land, but also a continuous legacy.

WORLDWIDE VOYAGE
The Ways of Our KūpunaThe Polynesian Voyaging Society started the Mālama Honua challenge in which they sail around the entire world using strictly the seas, winds and stars. This served as a vessel to show others that connecting with nature can result in amazing experiences, and the ways of our ancestors must be cultivated, in learning to care for our ʻāina.
